Can you play Destiny 2 on a Mac?

Short answer: No. Bungie says Destiny 2 isn't supported on any system using Proton (a Wine-based layer, like Grapple) and will ban players who bypass that block.

What we know

Bungie's Steam guide states that Destiny 2 is not supported on Steam Deck or on any system using Steam Play's Proton unless Windows is installed and running. Players who try are returned to their library, and Bungie warned that bypassing the block leads to a ban.

BattlEye itself can support Proton, but only when a developer opts in — Bungie has chosen not to. Proton and Grapple are both built on Wine.

Steam lists Destiny 2 for Windows only; there's no Mac version.

What to do instead

There are no Grapple settings that get around a kernel-level anti-cheat block, and we won't suggest workarounds that could get your account banned. If the publisher offers cloud streaming, that runs on a Mac; otherwise it needs a Windows PC.

Why doesn't Destiny 2 work with Grapple?

Destiny 2 relies on BattlEye, which uses a kernel-mode driver on Windows. Grapple is built on Wine, which runs Windows programs in user space without a Windows kernel, so that driver can't load — and the publisher doesn't allow Wine-based layers. The same applies to CrossOver and other Wine-based tools. Only the game's developer can change that.

Will a future Grapple update make Destiny 2 work?

Not by itself. Anti-cheat blocks like this are decided by the publisher, not by compatibility tools. If the publisher changes its policy, we'll re-test and update this page.

Is there a Mac version of Destiny 2?

Steam doesn't offer a macOS build of Destiny 2; it's listed for Windows only.
